Current status: "In Delphi XE8, I've put a TBluetoothLE component on a VCL form. Then I inserted this code:

procedure TForm1.FormCreate(Sender: TObject);
var
A: TBluetoothLEAdapter;
begin
A := BluetoothLE1.GetCurrentAdapter;
end;

However, when running the program, I got an error message about a missing DLL:

BluetoothApis.dll

Where is this DLL? Why it was not installed when installing Delphi XE8?"

PeterPanino created a new topic ' Delphi X Seattle registration issue' in the forum. 7 years ago

I am a update subscriber from Delphi XE8 Enterprise.

After having installed Delphi X Seattle, I got this start screen:

wVeACdR.gif

So I opened the License Manager and registered the 2 available serial numbers (which had no description). After registration and restart the 2 serial numbers have vanished and no serial numbers for Delphi X Seattle are present in the Workstation Licenses list.

Hi Phyllis, thanks for your advice.

Yes, the XE8 Update1 installer has removed some XE7 files, now I've just removed FastReport from the IDE and the problem is solved.

There was also an error message with Castalia when starting the XE7 IDE, but afterwards no more. Now everything seems to work fine.

Thanks again!

Phyllis,

thanks for your advice, it seems to work and the Delphi XE8 IDE now does not anymore show the error message at startup.

However, there is another issue: When starting the XE7 IDE (please note: the XE*SEVEN* IDE) I get a huge number of error messages, although I did not install anything in the XE*SEVEN* IDE!

Here are the error messages screenshots:

How can the installation of the Delphi XE8 Update 1 afflict the XE*SEVEN* IDE? This is really weird!

Should I also click on "No" on these error messages?

PeterPanino created a new topic ' List of variables?' in the forum. 7 years ago

In the Delphi IDE there seems to be no way to get a structured LIST OF VARIABLES grouped by scope, either for the current unit or for the whole project.

Or is there an add-in for this?

PeterPanino replied to the topic 'Detect changes on a form with one simple call?' in the forum. 7 years ago

Roger, thanks for your very convincing thoughts. I think that maybe the solution could be:

1. At design-time, somehow "mark" the controls on the form which should be watched for change - perhaps using the Tag property

2. When a form is shown, an automatic function collects the default values of the marked controls and automatically stores them in an array or object created at run-time

3. When the form closes, a specific function cycles through the marked controls again and compares their values with the stored values

Steps 1 - 3 could be automated in such a way that everything is done automatically.

PeterPanino created a new topic ' Detect needed third party components?' in the forum. 7 years ago

I need to migrate a lot of projects from previous Delphi versions (PreXE, XE2, XE4, XE7) to Delphi XE8, where these projects use each a different set of third party components.

Is there a tool where I can ask:

  • Which third party components do I need to install in Delphi XE8 to open PreviousProject1 in Delphi XE8?
  • Which third party components do I need to install in Delphi XE8 to open PreviousProject2 in Delphi XE8?
  • Which third party components do I need to install in Delphi XE8 to open PreviousProject3 in Delphi XE8?
  • Etc. etc.

PeterPanino replied to the topic 'A few questions about GetIt' in the forum. 7 years ago

BTW, are the items in the GetIt window DYNAMICALLY updated online from Embarcadero in each IDE session, or are they part of the IDE installation? If the latter was the case, then it would reduce the GetIt functionality ad absurdum, as GetIt would make sense only when it is updated dynamically online.

PeterPanino created a new topic ' Customizing and extending Delphi XE8 Context Help?' in the forum. 7 years ago

Hi! Is it possible to customize and extend the context help system in Delphi XE8, like it was in an earlier version of Delphi? For example, after having registered JCL.CHM in the Delphi XE8 help system, placing the cursor on ShellExecAndWait in the source code editor and pressing F1 should open JCL.CHM and jump to the ShellExecAndWait page. Of course, when the term ShellExecAndWait is found in more the one help file, a dialogbox should allow to pick the one to show.

This would be VERY USEFUL!

PeterPanino created a new topic ' A few questions about GetIt' in the forum. 7 years ago

GetIt is a great new feature in XE8. I have some questions about it:

1. GetIt installs the components in:

\Users\<username>\Documents\Embarcadero\Studio\16.0\CatalogRepository\

Is it possible to customize this path? I keep all the components for each Delphi version in a centralized directory and would like to keep the components installed by GitIt in the same directory.

2. I have only the Delphi personality. Is it possible to automatically hide all components for C++?

3. It would be nice to have all components which are already installed tagged with "Installed" or similar and to temporarily hide the installed components. Is this possible?

4. GetIt is also particularly useful with multi-component packages like JEDI JVCL (including JCL). It would be nice if somebody at Embarcadero would prepare a JEDI JCL+JVCL package for GetIt. Or is this already being prepared?

PeterPanino replied to the topic 'Favorite projects in the XE8 Welcome page?' in the forum. 7 years ago

Yes, please, restore it ASAP. Usually a developer has several main parallel projects he is working with over a timeframe of several weeks or months. And in between he creates a lot of smaller test projects which are used only once. So the smaller one-time projects would edge out the main projects from the Recent Projects list. Generally, the Recent Projects list is for short-term usage, while the Favorite Projects list is suited for long-term projects.

PeterPanino created a new topic ' IP-Works installation problem' in the forum. 7 years ago

In Delphi XE8, I've installed IP-Works 9 (from the additional Embarcadero downloads) with the IP-Works installer in:

C:\COMP\DELPHIXE8\IPWorks V9 Delphi Edition\

which is a writable directory and contains the IP-Works source files in:

C:\COMP\DELPHIXE8\IPWorks V9 Delphi Edition\pas\

However, it seems that the IP-Works installer additionally also installed its source files in:

c:\program files (x86)\embarcadero\studio\16.0\lib\Win32\release\

So always when I try to compile one of the IP-Works demo projects, I get this error message:

[dcc32 Fatal Error] ipwnetclock.pas(872): F2039 Could not create output file 'c:\program files (x86)\embarcadero\studio\16.0\lib\Win32\release\ipwnetclock.dcu'

because obviously it finds the IP-Works source files in c:\program files (x86) before it finds them in C:\COMP.

So how can I make IP-Works use the source files in C:\COMP instead of in c:\program files (x86)?

PeterPanino replied to the topic 'Hiding non-visual components on the form?' in the forum. 7 years ago

There is so much which could be improved in the IDE! For example, I don't understand why the form design area has to be the same size and in the same pane as the source code editor. Personally, I would like to decrease the form design area to have more space for other panels. But this unfortunately also decreases the width of the source code editor where I want have as much space as possible.

Internet Explorer 11.

Now I did it in Chrome and it worked: RSP-10153

In Chrome also the drop-down menus worked, which they did not from the IDE.

I believe Internet Explorer is crap. Embarcadero should really use the Chrome engine instead of IE.
