A Cool Parallax Starfield Simulation Using FireMonkey There is nothing like writing demo projects. Whenever I see an interesting piece of code, does not really matter in which language, I'm thinking about moving it to Delphi. Delphi XE2 is all about cross-platform and mobile development, so "moving to Delphi" specifically means for me these days "moving to Delphi iOS mobile app". Every framework and every language is different, so at one level it is about understanding syntactic difference between programming languages, and at the other level it...
Bezier Surface Visualization (from Turbo Pascal to Delphi FireMonkey) Today I have been presenting "FireMonkey 3D Programming" session on the SDE event in Zeist in the Netherlands. Bob Swart was so kind and invited me to present on the first session of the day in the "Delphi" conference track and I wanted to prepare a brand new demo to show off the power of FireMonkey. There is more and more FireMonkey resources available online, including new "FireMonkey blog", FireMonkey Info page, FireMonkey quickstart tutorials and many more. Some of the best FireMonkey cod...
Delphi DataSnap REST server and jQueryMobile web client tutorial available I have just put together a little EDN article about using jQueryMobile JavaScript library in your Delphi XE2 "DataSnap REST Application" projects. The idea was to demonstrate how to call server-side functions implemented in native Delphi code from the JavaScript client embedded in a web page using very popular jQueryMobile framework for pages optimized for web browsers running in smartphones. The article is available here: http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/42016 ... and the source code he...

FireMonkey in Lisbon today "FireMonkey in Action LIVE" is hitting the road again! I'm in Lisbon now and it was a very exciting day. I have demonstrated RAD Studio XE2, Delphi and FireMonkey to a fully packed room of developers in Lisbon. The energy levels were very high and it was a pure pleasure to demonstrate some cool new FireMonkey 3D demos and also to spend a significant chunk of time showing DataSnap for building multitier applications with Delphi, HTML5 and jQueryMobile. Great thanks to Sergio Transmontano from ...
"24 Hours of Delphi" today and my "FireMonkey End-to-End Scenarios" It is a really long day today:-) I'm now still listening to "24 Hours of Delphi" online webinar hosted by David I and Anders Ohlsson from Developer Relations, and it is almost midnight now. Very good stuff! I have promised during my session to upload "FireMonkey End-to-End Scenarios" demos. Both demos and slides are now available for download from this link: http://cc.embarcadero.com/item/28674 Overview With FireMonkey you can create great looking HD and 3D user interfaces, but at t...

Delphi Labs: DataSnap XE - Callbacks I was always intrigued by a possibility of doing callbacks in client/server, distributed applications. RAD Studio XE demos include "CallbackChannels" demo that shows how to use callbacks with different DataSnap communication protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and architectures (DBX, REST). In this "Delphi Labs" episode I have tried to create the most simple example of using callbacks. Both client and server are Delphi VCL Forms applications. To keep it simple I'm only using TCP/IP and DBX. This tutoria...
Delphi Labs: DataSnap Server implemented as Windows Service Welcome to "Delphi Labs"! There is so much fun researching different areas of DataSnap architecture. The episode this week is about different application types. The last tutorial was quite complex, so this time I wanted to keep the demo part really simple. Different types of DataSnap servers are very nicely explained by Jim Tierney at his CodeRage5 conference episode and available at the channel-e. The step-by-step demo in this tutorial is focused on implementing and installing Delphi Data...

Delphi Labs: DataSnap XE - jQueryMobile Web Frontend Man! That was a LOT of work to get this finished. I am especially happy with three new video episodes that I have recorded and uploaded to youtube that shows how you can: use jQueryMobile in Delphi code, add DataSnap server connectivity and generate dynamic, data-driven jQueryMobile web pages dynamically. In this Delphi Labs DataSnap tutorial I am demonstrating practical steps for building jQueryMobile web frontend application for displaying InterBase XE “Employees” database data from a stand...
Delphi Labs: DataSnap XE - WebBroker jQueryMobile Boilerplate Two weeks ago I have been presenting with Jason Vokes at the University College of London for post-graduate students that were learning how to become technological entrepreneurs. We showed them building scalable, fault-tolerant Delphi XE application with DataSnap framework and deploying to Amazon EC2 cloud. For this occasion I really wanted to build a brand new, sexy looking demo and decided to build a jQuery Mobile web front-end for data coming from a DataSnap server. It is really a bit of m...
