Great idea for a RAD Studio Beacon App I was reading an article (from last summer) this morning about how VMware is installing beacons and building apps for use on their Palo Alto corporate campus. This is a great example of the use of beacons and beacon fence to help navigate complex enterprise buildings and corporate/school campuses. I wonder if any RAD Studio developers have built or are thinking about building these types of apps? Embarcadero has shown several beacon solutions and demos as part of CodeRage, webinars and blog pos...
IoT Integration with RAD Server webinar, Feb 2nd, 3PM Amsterdam The world of Internet of Things is simply exploding! It is arguably the most interesting area in the IT landscape to watch. IoT is still in its infancy. Everybody knows that it is the next big thing, but there is no clear technology standards or market leaders. Building a complete IoT solution is more then just responding to beacon's proximity events in your mobile app. You need to have a central place to manage your complete IoT infrastructure and logic. In the world of Delphi and C++Builder t...

Beacons and Delphi in Amsterdam It is the second day of CodeRage XI today! CodeRage is Embarcadero's annual online developer conference and I'm kicking off the Day 2 with my presentation about "Beacons and Delphi in Amsterdam". During the session I'm going to demonstrate how to build mobile apps with Delphi and C++Builder that are using beacons for accurate location information. I'm also going to show practical examples of using Delphi with Amsterdam Open Beacon Network and Amsterdam Open Data integration. Here are the slide...
Proximity Sensors Made Simple With BeaconFence In RAD Studio On Android And iOS BeaconFence is a developer proximity solution that delivers precise “GPS-Free” indoor/outdoor user location tracking and events with radial and geometric zones for any physical location and layout. Visually draw the layout of the physical location and beacon placement to track location information down to inches. Create radial and rectangular zones and track intersections, enters, and exits with callback events. BeaconFence enables developers to take proximity beacons to the next level by adding...
Extended Beacon sample for Delphi 10.1 Berlin: Standard, Alternative and Eddystone beacons If you look at the ExtendedBeaconScanner sample that is included for Delphi in 10.1 Berlin, you will learn how to scan for Beacon devices using different scan modes: Standard, Alternative, Eddystone, and Extended. When selecting the Extended mode, the sample allows you to select the kind of Beacon device to scan: iBeacon, AltBeacon, and Eddystone. The Extended mode allows scanning all different kind of beacon devices simultaneously. This sample shows how to use the Extended scan mode to discover...
Building Proximity Apps with RAD Studio Last week I had a pleasure of doing remote online presentation about building proximity-enabled mobile apps with Delphi and RAD Studio for Delphi developers gathered at the Delphi Developer Days 2016 in Poland. Here are some notes, links and demos from this presentation. Our smartphones are hardly phones anymore. They are in fact powerful, multi-purpose sensor centres that James Bond a few decades ago could have only dreamt about. If you think about it your phone has not only speakers...
CASE28 Conference in Croatia Delphi Presentation Today The power of 21st century technology today in action: doing live Delphi presentation during CASE28 Conference in Croatia without leaving my office in Amsterdam! I really love going to Croatia and it is my favourite destination for SCUBA diving. Sometimes you just cannot be physically present in too many locations in short periods of time:-) The presentation today was not too technical, however I have tried to demonstrate how easy it is to use Delphi and - using Rapid Application Development me...
Development Examples of Real World Beacon Applications At my opening keynote last week for the Australian Developer Day in Sydney Australia, I talked about the Internet of Things (IoT) along with business and developer opportunities that are available today and will continue for years to come.  I showed the Gartner Group reports and other research that shows that IoT and IoT platforms are in today's business cross hairs. I talked about how the IoT business opportunity value-add will be $1.9 billion by 2020. Some of the industry areas where...

I want to build a BeaconFence I'm not a software developer, but after seeing BeaconFence in action I'd like to learn.   My background is design, business and marketing, and amazingly BeaconFence embodies each of these areas. There is a real design element to creating a map and layout of a floor plan and then seeing it in scale in your IDE. Defining the ultimate beacon locations to create zones and paths is pure design zen. Through BeaconFence I can see incredible opportunity for a ...
BeaconFence and Beacons – Tips from our Development Team I recently presented a Developer Skill Sprint “Taking Beacons to the Next Level” where the presentation and demonstration covered proximity based application development using Beacons and our recently announced BeaconFence (Beacon Fencing Proximity Solution for Developers) product. Thank you to everyone who attended, asked great questions and were enthusiastic about the opportunity to build new applications for their customers. Along with the skill sprint presentation I also provided a blog post...
