Arduino & Delphi Cosplay Me with a Spartan Boba Fett. I thought he was more of a Delphi Dude (FanX Salt Lake City – 2018) Cosplay (aka costume-play) takes the fun and imagination of childhood dress-up to extreme levels only justifiable by an adult! Not only is it expensive, and needs a large time commitment, but it is rarely comfortable. Comic conventions are the usual place to find cosplay, but Halloween is also a good excuse for some cosplay fun. I’m a huge fan of creative cosplay and love getting ...
Demo Listbox combined as master-detail relationship Watch this video demonstrating the operation of listbox combined as master-detail relationship. In my presentation at the Embarcadero Conference in Brazil on October 23, I showed a slide showing some screens of apps developed and recreated by me. In the video below the demonstration of the functioning of one of these UI, in which I worked with 3 listbox combined as if they were master-detail relationships. Watch the video
Directions for ARC Memory Management in Delphi A few years back, when Embarcadero started building new Delphi compilers for platforms other than Windows there was a lot of discussion how compatible the new Delphi should have been with the current language, in terms of core language features and overall perception of the language. Eventually the decision that emerged was to do keep an extremely large degree of compatibility, with a few significant and bold steps towards a language more capable of attracting a new generation of developers.  ...

Pictures from the 10.3 Rio Preview in Brazil We just shared a preview of 10.3 Rio in Brazil on Tuesday, the 23 of October here at the Embarcadero Conference in São Paulo. Over 750 developers were in attendance, and the speakers included many Embarcadero and Sencha MVPs. I snapped a few pictures from the event that I thought I would share. With a name like 10.3 Rio is great we were able to do a preview event in Brazil as part of their annual developer conference. I’ve been in attendance every year since I started at Embarcadero, and i...

Windows 10 October 2018 Update Microsoft has released a new update of Windows 10, continuing with their now 6-month release cycle. The version 1809 was initially distributed, and then put on hold (twice, actually) because of issues, first with files on OneDrive and later with ZIP operations. But that’s not the point of my blog post. I have personally installed it and not experienced any issues. It appears to be a good update overall to the existing Windows 10 experience. You can see a good summary of the new features at https...

Open Source Friday with Delphi Welcome after a long break! I intend to intensively return to the activity in this forum. In the meantime, I was speaker and coach on many interesting workshops covering code architecture and clean code. I'm coming back to you with new experiences and new ideas to write here. And immediately I have to point out that they are much easier to understand.  First of all, I say that at the beginning of this blog I raised too large and too complicated topics for an average experienced Delphi deve...

Webinar Replay: Simplify Data Change Tracking with InterBase On October 17, I did an InterBase webinar on using Change Views to simplify data change tracking.  Change Views allows you to reduce your network traffic, keep mobile data costs down and speed up your development time by syncing only the changes you subscribe to. As your database scales, the data tracking hurdles get larger and require complex solutions, triggers, timestamp tables and more. There's a simpler way for you to take control of your data syncs: InterBase Change Views. InterBa...

Level Up Your UI Design Skills You’re short on time, and cash, so where can you go to learn new skills to improve your app UIs? There are a ton of free, or nearly free, on-demand resources if you know where to look.   Enroll in free, or inexpensive, Online Courses: I love taking classes from Coursera. You can access the same college and university classes taught by great schools for free by auditing classes. (I also use Coursera for non-technical courses like literature.) Design Principles by University of Californi...
