Want more...Knowledge

I am in the constant search for knowledge of all kinds. While I continue my search in the areas of software engineering and computer programming, I also explore other areas where software might be used.  In my undergraduate studies at Cal Poly Computer Science (1969-1973) I took a range of non-computer science courses as part of my degree.  The Cal Poly "Learn by Doing" philosophy expanded our knowledge to include areas where computers and software would be used in my future career.  After graduation, I thought I would go work for some type of engineering or scientific company.

After graduation I worked for TRW developing real-time minicomputer systems.   In college, I loved the compiler, data structure and programming languages courses. At TRW we were often building our own tools to improve our programming productivity.  I always dreamed of working for a compiler company.  After meeting Philippe Kahn at Comdex Las Vegas in November 1983, I knew that I would find a home at Borland.

Working for a developer tools company is the perfect place for someone who loves programming and programmers.  Now as part of Embarcadero Technologies we study programming languages, development environments, methodologies, components, software architectures, platforms, tool chains, and compilers.  A big part of our knowledge acquisition is directed to understanding the needs of our customers, their environments, their applications, and their teams.

I have the perfect job: programmer, working for a programming tools company, and visiting with our fabulous customers.  Keeping up to date on the industry, the technology, and the software economy helps grow my knowledge base so that I can help Embarcadero, our partners, and our customers.
