My stops during the RAD Studio XE2 World Tour
In coming weeks there will be plenty of opportunities to watch RAD Studio XE2 live in Europe! You can find information about all events around the world in the RAD Studio XE2 World Tour web page (http://www.embarcadero.com/world-tour). There are more then 70 cities in 30 countries! Delphi and C++Builder are getting traction again!
RAD Studio XE2 with Delphi XE2, C++Builder XE2, Prism XE2 and RadPHP XE2 is already available! XE2 is clearly the most significant release of Delphi since Delphi 1!
The XE2 introduces Delphi support for Windows 64-bit and fundamental new features into the VCL like styles and live bindings. That's exciting to be able to take an existing Delphi VCL application and with little effort add support for multiple user interface look-and-feels to it. New Live Bindings engine gives a brand new dimension to building database applications, where you can bind your data to any control and not only data-aware controls.
For me the most exciting new feature in Delphi XE2 is FireMonkey: new application development platform for targeting Windows and Mac OS X from the very same source code. FireMonkey is from ground up built with styles in mind, so there is plenty of flexibility and control how your application looks and behaves.
FireMonkey also supports native development for iOS, so you can use Delphi to write applications that run on iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad!
The beauty of FireMonkey is the fact that you do not have to start learning the new library from scratch! All your non-visual VCL code should work with no changes, including a possibility to reuse existing VCL data modules in FM applications! You just need to use FireMonkey HD and 3D forms instead of traditional VCL forms.
There are also plenty of significant enhancements in other areas of Delphi like IDE, RTL and DataSnap. Just too many to name them here.
Next week I'm starting to present in the European part of RAD Studio XE2 World Tour. All events are free, but you have to register first. I'm looking forward to see every and each of you during one of the World Tour events!
