ITDevCon 2012 was great fun!

I'm just back home from the ITDevCon 2012 Delphi conference in Verona, Italy. Two days, three simultaneous tracks, all packed with great presentations from international Delphi experts! That was actually my 4th time to participate in this biggest European Delphi event and I was never disappointed - check out for details of past year ITDevCons here: 2011, 2010 and 2009:-)

XE3 release of Delphi and RAD Studio is all about "virtually replicating the developer force" however my bi- and tri-location skills are still in flux, so participating in ITDevCon is all about choices. I was lucky at my first Delphi XE3 keynote session, because there was no other sessions at the same time and it was fun to show new FireMonkey FM2 features including video playback. My second session of FireMonkey 3D clearly lost to Ray Konopka's two part presentation on building custom FireMonkey components, but it was still fun and great opportunity to rehearse before my FireMonkey 3D session on CodeRage 7 for just few - interested - guys!

If I would need to pick the three top sessions that I have attended on ITDevCon this year that would be the sessions from Ray Konopka, Primož Gabrijelčič and Jørn E. Angeltveit.

Ray Konopka is real Delphi expert that started to work with Delphi "even before Delphi" and is well known for being the owner of Raize Software and author of many Delphi components and CodeSite advanced logging solution that comes out-of-the-box with RAD Studio. His presentation on "Effective User Interface Design" was very well received and there was lots of laughing when Ray showed some of the most crazy and confusing messages that users and programmers are presented with. My best:-)

I have also enjoyed the presentation by Primož Gabrijelčič, also known as "Delphi Geek". The session was on OmniThreadLibrary that makes parallel programming in Delphi very easy and elegant. I have asked Primož for just one sentence description of what this library is and Primož said that "doing multithreading in Delphi without OmniThreadLibrary is like doing Windows programming without the VCL"! Very true!

The presentation from Jørn E. Angeltveit was really new to me. It was about the "Smart Mobile Studio", which is essentially the IDE that takes Delphi code and generates corresponding JavaScript. Very cool technology. Microsoft with their TypeScript also tries to add object orientation and type safety to JavaScript, but Smart Mobile Studio goes much further and you can express your application logic in our beloved Delphi code. That's powerful!

The ITDevCon is not only about programming and technology. It is also great social event and BitTime crew - who represents Embarcadero in Italy - are great and very warm people. This year we went to Verona historical city centre to have a dinner in a traditional restaurant. Everybody LOVED it!

Jørn and Daniele Teti, technical director at BitTime, are having good time talking about Delphi!

Delphi experts in action: Marco Cantù, Ray Konopka and BitTime CEO - Fabrizio Bitti!

I hope to return to Verona next year for even bigger ITDevCon:-) Now I'm focusing on my CodeRage 7 sessions next week! See You online!

You could definitely see your enthusiasm within the work you write. The world hopes for more passionate writers like you who aren't afraid to say how they believe. All the time go after your heart.
