December 8: Pascal Programming for Schools, Migrating Delphi Applications to Delphi XE and John Lennon

Each day brings us closer to Christmas and the end of 2010. There is still plenty of time to update your skills and your versions of our developer tools before the year ends. Today, in particular, is one of those (sadly) memoriable days. Where were you on December 8, 1980 when you heard that John Lennon had been killed?

Pascal Programming for Schools

Marco Cantu recently blogged about a web site in the UK that has wonderful content that helps young students learn Pascal programming. The site is called "Pascal Programming for Schools" and you can find the web site at http://pp4s.co.uk/. It is a wonderful site with loads of tutorials, example programs, student challenges, resources and more. Thank you, Dr. Norman Morrison and Dr. Douglas Morrison and the schools and students for creating a wonderfully educational and inspirational site for students who are interested in learning to program in Pascal.

Migrating Delphi Applications to Delphi XE

Our own Lead Technical Evangelist, Andreano Lanusse, has updated his migration white paper, "Reasons to Migrate to Delphi XE, what you might have missed since Delphi 7". The white paper gives you the new capabilities that have appeared since Delphi 7 in the language, IDE, tools, compiler, RTL, VCL, debugger and more. It is a great resource for all developers who are still using older versions.  The paper is also a great read for those of you on the latest XE version who are only using a fraction of the tons of capabilities available at your fingertips. Reminder that the upgrade pricing for Delphi 2006 and Developer Studio 2006 customers will run out after December 31. One of the best reasons for you to migrate to Delphi XE, C++Builder XE or RAD Studio XE, is that buying those versions gets you earlier versions at no extra cost.  For example buying Delphi XE also gets you Delphi 7, Delphi 2007, Delphi 2009 and Delphi 2010. John Lennon

It was 30 years ago today that John Lennon was killed. I was watching Monday Night Football when the alert came on the TV that he had been fatally shot (http://www.popeater.com/2010/12/08/john-lennon-death-news-report-videos-1980/). When I am in New York, I always try to visit the John Lennon Imagine mosaic in Central Park.  Imagine is my most favorite song and the song I always sing in a Karaoke club.
