"DevCo" - Ping...

Posted by on in Blogs

It's Friday.  It's been a full week.  The BDS2006 update is nearing completion.  The team is adopting some more agile processes and continuing on Highlander (the codename for the next BDS release) as we peel folks away from the update.  We had some “proof-of-concept“ demos in a meeting this morning that seems to have sparked some real interest among the team.  The small email storm that followed was a good sign...

We had a new compiler engineer start this week!  Yet, there's still some more open req's for the Delphi/C++Builder. We're looking to fill some of those positions now.  This is a good opportunity for someone (or more) to get on board before the spin out.

So, I've already outlined most of the major events this week in this post.  I'll be keeping you all up to date on the events as they occur.

I hope some time is built in to the Highlander schedule to look at some Avalon integration.

I'd love to see Avalon aka WPF support as well, but the problem appears to be the same as supporting .NET 2.0 in BDS 2006. MS did not release WPF yet (i.e. it's beta), and I don't think they will release before the forth quarter.

You mean join a company right before the inevitable layoffs???

    To C Johnson...

Why do you think that there will be inevitable layoffs?

    C Johnson,

Wow. I may be wrong here, but it seems to me that you're a glass half empty kinda person. Having a layoff right after the transaction completes would be the silliest and stupidest thing I can think that an investor would do. I mean they just shelled out however 10s (maybe 100s) of millions of dollars, and then they would effectively cut out their own heart? That's like buying a Ferrari and driving it off the lot right into a telephone phone... On purpose!

Either that, or you have some sixth sense and can gaze into the future and tell with all certainty that we're headed for a train wreck. It seems that in your mind, there is no scenario where this all could end up for the good.

I like having a counter-point in order to test my assumptions and to keep all of these talks grounded. However, I've yet to see you acknowledge that those involved may in fact know what they're doing and could actually have a few more facts about all this than the average person on the street.

Keep posting and keep talking. That is what this is all about. A conversation. Also, I'm not here to change your mind, only challenge you to stand in a different spot and examine that new perspective.

Europe sounds good to me also. I to would like to see the following:

    -Visual IDE for CF

    -64bit compiler

    -Delphi specific Online help

-Delphi being marketed by http://www.borland.com/delphi" target="_blank">Delphi Gurus

But we are getting into broken record territory :-)

    Europe ?

do you mean all the R&D group will be relocated ? it sound a bit expensive, and I do not know if everyone in the R&D will agree.

Hoi Allen, good to see that you indeed are comming with an update to BDS2006, that will go some way of showing that Borland/DevCo are serious about continuing this (these) products. Hope you can get some press writing about it, because in the mind of most people http://www.borland.com/delphi" target="_blank">Delphi died last February.

Still it is important that this company uncertaincy get resolved as quickly as possible, because the current shaky position is not a platform for getting new customers.
