    Hello David,

Thank you for the information about the new courseware.

However, the mentioned above XE5 courseware manuals are not yet available according to the http://www.ebob42.com/courseware website.

On top of that 99 Euro for a single pdf file is quite expensive. It almost looks like the author wants to limit the number of people who would be willing to buy his books.

    Zenon:
According to Bob's site, the courseware will appear throughout this month starting with January 9 for the first Development Essentials course notes.
Regarding price - that is up to each individual to decide whether you need the expertise that Bob can definitely give.
Bob's courseware home page also states: "All courseware manuals of 50 Euro or higher include a free bonus copy of Delphi XE Development Essentials, plus free updates to these titles until the end of 2014."

    Hi David,

I guess I was a bit misled by the title of your post and somehow made an assumption that these are available for sell - my bad.

As for my little complaint about the price, it was about the price only not about the Bob's expertise.
I have bought some of the courseware manuals in the past and as far as I remember these were about 200-250 pages long.
If one wanted to buy all four XE5 manuals it would mean spending c.a. $500 for about 900 pages of information.

Please do not take me wrong, I am not trying to say that the information in these books is not worth that amount of money for the right person.
However, the price of the information for Delphi developer is about a magnitude higher that the one for example for the C++ programmer, who can buy a lots of expertise for about $50
    http://www.amazon.com/The-Programming-Language-4th-Edition/dp/0321563840/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389029708&sr=8-1&keywords=c%2B%2B+programming

I recall that long time ago Borland used to publish some Delphi books under "Borland Press" logo.
I would really like Embarcadero to do something like in order that to bring down the price of the access to the newest Delphi and C++ Builder related information.

Dr Bob has said somewhere that XE2 PDF buyers will get XE5 for free.
    - I didn't receive anything. I suppose my "free update period" has expired (without ever receiving a single update).

    For your information,
    1. though "free updates till ..." is stated when you buy, I have never received a single update
    (no update through XE3-XE4)
    2. free support is given... send him email (TWICE) but no reply
    3. sent him email to ask if XE5 book will be given for customers who bought XE2 book since never received a single update - no reply

He is interested in your initial money only. Don't expect support or updates.

As for most of the book, it's packed with lots of screen captures (so that it seems like a lot of pages). Many examples, eg. Datasnap file upload/download can be googled. His examples are similiar, so make your own conclusions. If you google Datasnap and his username, you will see he asks some of these questions on Embarcadero forums.

After a while, if you read through the forums, or try the samples, it's about the same as buying the book, just that he compiles it in one place.
So if you are too busy or lazy, paying 99 euros may not be a bad alternative.

Not bad-mouthing him, but I think you need to moderate your expectations if you buy from him.

Al, your free update periode did not expire. I apologise for the delay in producing the XE5 manuals. However, you will get your updated manual (I'm not sure which XE2 title it was you ordered, but it's in my database, so the updated title will appear in your mailbox automatically).

As for the high price: I'm sorry about that too Zenon, but remember that one day of training will usually cost you more. And the fact that these courseware manuals are available in the first place, is to support people who cannot attend my training classes. I do not HAVE to sell these manuals, and if they are too expensive, then please do not buy them. I'd much rather see you in one of my training classes ;-)

Thank you David, for mentioning my titles on your blog. Again sorry to all for the delays. I will not hide behind excuses (a few of you know), and will acknowledage all XE2 buyers with XE5 editions once available. Thanks for your patience.

    Groetjes, Bob Swart

The ebob42 courseware site doesn't mention XE5, but the drbob42 site does. Additionally, the XE5 links all say "soon" and aren't actually links to anything...yet. Thanks for the post, David I., and for the comments above.
