And now for something a little different.. I was struck last week at the differences between prices in different countries when I went to buy some chewing gum in Norway. It worked out at over £1.50 for a small packet! The same thing in the UK would be about 50p So this got me thinking… If gum was a currency, (well it is something we can all buy worldwide), how much gum would I need to swap for a copy of Delphi or C++ Enterprise, and bearing in mind we have the Ultimate for Enterprise cost at the moment, how much gum would it cost me t...

Class Variables. I got asked today about having a global value that you can share between objects of specific types but was closed away to other objects, so they didn't want to have a global variable. Two nice language feature in Delphi allows you to do exactly what they were trying to do, and they are Class Variables and strict private declarations. In this quick blog post we will look at this in action. A Class Variable simply means you have a value that is managed by the class type rather than an instan...

Visual LiveBindings Video So we had fun with the Developer Direct Season 2 opener today, including an outage of sound from GoToMeeting servers partway into the session. We had a lot of people hang on the line to keep watching, but as the sound was up and down I thought it would be best to re-record the section on LiveBindings and let you all watch in your leisure. So here it is... enjoy. If you want to register for the remaining 9 seasons in the series, then please follow this link for Developer Direct Season 2...

Hej fra Aarhus til RAD Studio XE3 So Tuesday saw my final stop in this month launch of RAD Studio XE3 and it was lovely to finish back in a town I know well, Aarhus. Despite the constant rain, we had great fun throwing out FireMonkey and Embarcadero beanie hats for a host of great questions. After having the pleasure of Thomas's company in Copenhagen, Jen's Fudge (who recently became Embarcadero's first Danish MVP) was present to talk about DAPUG, the Danish Embarcadero User Group and the events they have coming soon with And...

Copenhagen and the Pascal Restaurant. One more day, one more city! Today I was in Copenhagen for my second of three cities this week. We had a very full house in Ballerup (Copenhagen) with over 70 attendees hearing about what is new in RAD Studio XE3. There were some really good questions from a very knowledgeable audience and it was great to see faces I had not seen before along with a number of familiar ones.
