Bucharest meets the team as part of the XE3 World Tour. Its not every day that you can say you had members of R&D at your event.... but today I can! (and I even got to join them for dinner the night before - great choice of venue Daniel) Today saw my (and I think Embarcadero's) first developer tools event in Bucharest (Romania) where I was joined by 5 very special guests from the R&D team (another first for me) Daniel Buleu, Director of Development (Romania) along with his colleagues Stefana (FireMonkey), Bogdan (IDE), Beniamin (C++ Com...

Oslo, getting a head with FireMonkey (hats) So today was my final on the RAD Studio XE3 World Tour stop for the week with an event in Oslo (Norway) speaking with another passionate packed full house of developers, we even had to bring in some extra chairs from the bar area. Kicking the day off we had a little fun; as an initiation to joining the local sales team Robin was tasked with getting everyone in the room to put on their new FireMonkey sports caps / beanies (welcome to Robin!!) and getting a big wave from everyone.. I gue...

Gothenburg via TVideoCaptureDevice So FireMonkey (FM2) now has a new component for capturing video (TVideoCaptureDevice) which is selectable using the TCaptureDeviceManager (found in unit FMX.Media). Whilst demoing this working via the Mac today in Gothenburg, I thought it would be fun to capture a picture of the audience. Your have to excuse the wonky camera angle, but it was taken live with the MacBook balanced in one hand. :-) [caption id="attachment_245" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Audience at RAD Studio XE3 Lau...

Visual LiveBinding & Sweden Event 3 for me today, and this time it was the first of the two events in Sweden. Really good turn out with lots of good questions and a number of new faces which is great. You can see some of the pictures from the event by following #RadXE3 on twitter e.g. http://pic.twitter.com/sulph8Hy One really good question today was around how do you bind to a StringGrid's columns using the new Visual LiveBindings. When you add a string grid to a form it has no columns and the first demo with grids sho...

The EMBT Cape Town Wave for XE3 Well what can I say... another record attendance for a South African event with our biggest Embarcadero Cape Town audience to date. Today's stop on the World Tour for XE3 saw Dr Glenn Wylie and myself arrive for our 3rd workshop in Cape Town. Its hard to describe the efforts that some people go to in getting to these events, but some more than others... After todays workshop we have had people from Kenya, Nigeria, The Democratic Republic of Congo and also Zimbabwe travel in to join us at the ...

Back in South Africa with Rad XE3 For the forth time in 12 months I'm back in South Africa with Dr Glenn Wylie (Director of Channel Sales UK, Ireland South & Sub-Sahara Africa). Hopefully this time we wont get into a taxi crash, have a fight with a troop of baboons or have an aborted take off when heading home! Yes, we always seem to have something eventful happen down here, but the warmth and great energy of the community down here is infectious and it is great to return time after time. On the night before the event, Gl...

Class Helper's with FireMonkey One of FireMonkeys really cool features is the way objects can be parented to other objects, and I've been using this a lot in demo's I've been writing recently. Supporting this are properites for TFMXObject.ChildrenCount and TFMXObject.Children (introduced on TFMXObject). Using these properties you can find out how many Children a specific object has at run time. However, as Children can also parent other objects, if you want to find out how many objects of a specific type you have in your c...
