InterBase tagline for CodeGear For Delphi, CodeGear has: CodeGear := TCompany.Create; For C++ Builder, CodeGear has: CodeGear = new Company; What about an InterBase version? How about? CREATE DOMAIN NEW_COMPANY AS CHAR(8) DEFAULT 'CODEGEAR' CHECK (VALUE 'BORLAND') NOT NULL;...

An interesting customer with Vista I am a pretty direct person and do support in pretty much the same way. Over the years it has gotten me in trouble at times. I had customer that I was very direct with last week where I thought for sure things might not go well. However, I wasn't going to change my style. The initial question went something like, I'm making an application with BDS 2006 with InterBase 7.5 using BDE on Vista and something isn't going right. Are their any know issues on InterBase with Vista? I came back with,Well...

Yes, I'm part of the CodeGear family I've not posted in a quite some time, and I don't really have anything to say today, besides I want to acknowledge I am part of part of CodeGear and I still work on InterBase. I think CodeGear is exciting and I am glad to be here. InterBase continues to be exciting and I am glad to continue to work on it as well....

A bunch of people do a bunch of stuff and something goes wrong with InterBase Hello blog, I've been gone for a long time. Today I feel inspired... Other than dealing with licensing and registration questions, the most common question I get from customer is something to the tune of "A bunch of users, did a bunch of stuff for a while and then something went wrong with my InterBase server". Something wrong is the server is hung, or it crashed, or it is performing really slowly. Naturally, as presented this is an unsolveable problem with a pleathura of things to look at. For...

Ultimate game 6/24/4 The largest turnout we have seen seen in some time turned out for this game, showing some faces we have not seen in quite a while. The weather was a little on hot side (for local standards) but quite enjoyable. At around 12:40 we began playing. More had indicated their intention to play, but had 7 players were ready to go. Intially, myself teamed with Jon Brandt and Zack against Scott, Bryce, Joseph and John Hawklyn. I remember my team being pretty successful and the other not quite so. Note l...

SCH3 Run 6/24/4 Last night was the Surf City Hash Harriers 200th run. A large turnout occured due to this and also because of the Iguana's Hash that is occuring over the weekend. The start was at the hares home on Main street between Theo's restaurant and Bargetto's winery in Soquel. I did this run with both my kids. My daughter in the jogging stroller and my son on his scooter. The start began with a check in the their driveway on Main street. Trail was soon discovered to the left and I followed. I noticed Li...
More on debugging the blogs database server Earlier this week John Kaster was still having problems with the blogs server, so I looked at it again. Although they were not directly his problems, I did notice two things I had noticed before that I did have John change. As opposed to the last time I looked the system when I could answer all the questions via IBConsole with a remote connection, this time you had to be on server where database was running to answer the questions. First of all, John had noticed that not all the CPUs as viewed ...

Debugging the InterBase blogs server The blogs server was having problems on Friday and John Kaster asked me to look at the InterBase side of things. (Note that John has a separare blog discussing debugging the blobs server). While John did give me access to the database via Remote desktop, I didn't need this and I thought I would briefly discuss how easy it was looking at what InterBase was doing. Based on the problems being observed, it was theorized that the InterBase server had been crashing and possibly the InterBase Guardian...

My favorite customers I have a few customers who I deal with on a routine basis who I think really have it together in understanding how to get support. I thought I would highlight what I think they are doing right with the idea that other customers could could learn how to get good support. In support you learn to protect yourself from who can call you. There are lots of ways for customers to get support, but generally calling me on my personal line usually isn't it. However, for all of the customers I'm thinking ...
