Problem with AppWave server - solved

0

Hello all, I have been running Delphi XE5 with 10 licenses via AppWave for a few years now. We are a small group at the university and this is all we need. Lately we got a new colleague and I wanted to give hime access - like about the 5 others I did before him. Appwave browser installed with no problems. Delphi downloaded and started. However, it stopped with the error: "The license server reported the following error: The license server host was not found". Which sound like the the computer can not find itself(?). After this error the next error is logical:" You are not licensed to use Embaradero Delphi XE5" . So I took the groups notebook, created an account under the name of our new colleague and installed AppWave/Delphi under that account. It runs like a dream! Summary: server works for everybody except for one user on one computer. Differences: Notebook is old, runs Win7, computer of colleague is new Win10 64b. Others use Win10 as well - so far no problems. Of course it should run on his computer, any ideas what could produce the error I got?   TIA Christiaan

I found the solution:

It had nothing to do with the computer but when Delphi was installed. I could duplicate it on another computer. On it was a working copy of Delphi, I deleted Appwave-client and everything connected to Delphi and reinstalled: same error - server couldn't find itself.  I opened Interbase and had a look on the data there. Although the server had all the correct info under "Admin / Server Status / license Server", the client side showed 127.0.0.1 (!) as license server address. No wonder it couldn't find any data. I remembered that I tried 127.0.0.1 once to see whether a copy of delphi would run on the server itself (it did). I thought I had changed that back as the server showed the correct address under "Admin / Server Status / license Server". Apperently I had not. It DOES NOT SHOW the address that is really given to the clients but the first that was ever typed in. However, if you change it this new data is really used and given to the clients. So I retyped the real address in the server and installed the client software including Delphi. It worked on my test computer and on the computer of our new colleague. Beware not everything the AppWave server shows you equals what it is really handing out!.

Glad you found it out (thumbs up!)

AppWave should give some (additional) information in its ELC-Log directory (INFO and ERROR.LOG) for future/additional debugging

Christiaan, can you ping your AppWave server from the "culprit" computer? Is there a virus/security/firewall software installed on it?
